NC State University Wolfpack Junior Results
The Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University may be one of the toughest college campus courses in the country. The Arnold Palmer Signature, aided by steady winds, challenged the field of the inaugural North Carolina State University Wolfpack Junior Championships hosted by the NC Junior Golf Foundation.
The High School Boys Division was won by Trey Guy (2013) of Fayetteville, NC who sat on the lead after posting a three under par score of 69 in round one. He took a one stroke lead over James Mcfadyen (2014) also of Fayetteville into the final round. Close behind were Thomas Lilly (2013) of Newton, NC who sat at even par followed by Chakka Pasupa (2014) of Charlotte, NC and Jack Fitzgerald (2013) of Wilmington were an additional shot back. As winds picked up during round two, the lead remained constant for most of the first nine holes of the final round with Trey Guy dropping a shot, but still taking a three stroke lead into the final nine holes over Chakka Pasupa. Things got interesting when Guy double bogeyed the twelfth hole and his lead was now just one stroke with six left to play. He birdied number 13 to regain a two stroke margin which he extended to three after Pasupa bogeyed the 16th hole and it appeared that Guy would coast to an easy victory. However, he bogeyed the last two holes and when Pasupa failed to make birdie putts on both 17 and 18 to force a playoff, Guy was able to hang on to win by one stroke with an even par total of 144. FitzGerald followed his opening round 73 with a solid 74 to place third.
In other playing divisions, Patrick Stephenson (2016) of Four Oaks, NC won the Middle School Boys Division with a five over par total of 149. Brian Chen (2017) of Cary, NC and Ryan Gerard (2017) tied for second place with scores of 151. Ashlii Thompson (2013) of Browns Summit, NC won the girls’ Division posting 154 to win by three strokes over Nicolette Donovan (2015) of Cary, NC.
